To Be Honest, A Beautiful Superhero Lady Always Works.
A Supernatural Character Who Exists For More Than 50 Years
She exists for more then 50 years but the biggest change is the technology that makes it possible for us to follow her. It was the year 1959 when DC Comics promoted the Supergirl as a character in the famous comics magazine "Action Comics". This female character was following the iconic Superman and her story was also based on connections with him, too. Like the planet they are coming from, the supernatural powers that they have, the clothes that they wear when they become "super" they were nearly identical, except their gender.
In 1984, we watched the movie Supergirl which is following the most popular movie, Superman. Those were the 80's, even watching television was still enough to shock people, Superman was a real and huge challenge for the audience. After the euphory that Superman created, Supergirl was not striking like "her cousin" but it was thrilling enough to understand that a woman can also be a superhero, too. In 2004, Supergirl was again on the scene in the comic book Superman/Batman. Also a separate comic book named Supergirl existed, too.
Producing a superhero story is in a way easy; because of it's nature, or supernature, it does not have to be realistic or logical. But this also has a risk of being understood as "weird" by the audience. It should give the understanding that something super or different is happening, but the producers still have to remember that the audience are normal human beings living in the real world.
If we think about superheroes, some of them are female characters and although power and fighting is mainly connected with male characters, the female superhero productions were also successful. This is normal, logical and also may have some effect of positive discrimination against woman on our earth.
The television series began to be published in 2015. According to the story, Kara Zor-El was sent to the world from the planet Krypton together with her cousin Kal-El, who will become Superman afterwards. The series stage all the happenings after she landed on earth, following to reveal her super powers. Criminals, allies, enemies, connections with her mother planet, aliens, time travel, clones, all issues which give extraordinary feeling to the audience.
One Super Role, Then More Super Roles
Melissa Benoist, the American actress and singer was active on the stage since 2008, whom we first saw in the film Tennesee, and then some roles in The Good Wife, Law And Order, Glee, and Homeland. But we can clearly mention that her real debut was Supergirl in 2015. Thanks to her appearance in Supergirl, she was always in some super roles like Arrow, The Flash or Batwoman, in the character and production combining system of DC Comics. Also in 2018 we remember her debut for Broadway with the "Beatiful : The Carole King Musical".
As adults are also interested in comics and the characters from comics, together with younger audience, it is obvious that these superheroes will go on acting both in movies and television series.
