The Flash is an American TV series created by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti, and also Geoff Johns. Based on the crime-fighting DC Comics superhero Barry Allen, known as the Flash, the TV series is action and drama-oriented. It is actually a spin-off from another TV series called Arrow, and they exist together in the Arrowverse. The main character Barry Allen a.k.a. the Flash is portrayed by Grant Gustin, who gained much more popularity after the show's initial release in 2014. Currently, The Flash has seven seasons and it is still an ongoing show, with the eighth season planned to come out in late 2021, probably in November. While at first it was hoped by many fans to come out during summer, the scheduling was delayed. The pilot episode of the show was well-received, and it was because of this that the series has been able to climb up the rating easily. A digital comic that takes place between the first two episodes has been released in 2014, and then a physical release also happened later in the year.
The Pilot of the Series the Flash
The series follows Barry Allen, a crime investigator who gains his superhuman speed ability after an explosion that takes place in the S.T.A.R. Laboratories. The particle accelerator explosion turns him into The Flash and it becomes his secret superhero identity. Through this secret identity, he fights against other bad people with superpowers living in his city. In season one, our protagonist Barry Allen is also trying to find the murderer of his mother Nora Allen. This ends up with opening a location in spacetime called singularity.
In the second season, things start heating up as another superhero called Zoom comes to the earth through this singularity from a parallel universe, intending to kill all the superheroes who share an ability alike himself. Barry, through the singularity, meets his father from another parallel universe called Earth-3.
As the seasons of The Flash continue on, elements of science fiction get deeply involved with the series and the plot starts to thicken, giving the main actor time to shine. Alternate timelines are created, teams are made up, a dark matter that threatens humanity is released into the city by other evil superhumans from parallel universes.
The Growth of the Series and the Reviews
The first episode of The Flash was the second-highest-rated series of the channel CW after it was released. It was also the second most-watched. In other countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, the show was well-received as well, being able to make it to the top four list in each one of them. In the year 2016 two years after its release, the series was deemed the fifth most popular TV series in the world. The reviews of the show have been usually positive thanks to the clever and different atmosphere of the show. The plot, the elements of Sci-Fi, and the acting have all blended very well together to make a great series.
