Outlander is a TV series from the United Kingdom, based on a novel with the same name written by Diana Gabaldon. It has a historical fiction, drama and fantasy genre. The TV series was developed by Ronald D. Moore. Outlander premiered on August 2014.
Our main character is Claire Randall, an ex World War II nurse who is married. Claire finds herself transported to Scotland, to the year 1743. There, in 1743, she comes across a Highland warrior named Sam Heughan. As she is with the rebel Scottish Highlander group from the MacKanzie Clan. The rebel group are being pursued by the redcoats of England by Captain Jonathan Randall (commonly referred to as “Black Jack”) who happens to be Claire’s husband Frank Randall’s ancestor.
She hurriedly gets married to a Highlander named Jamie Fraser as it is frowned upon for a lady to be single at that time period, but they find themselves falling in love. As this is unraveling, the Clan start to suspect that she is a spy, and retain her. This retaining prevents her trials to go back into her own time period. As Claire is from the future, she tries to warn them against the rebellion: The Jacobite cause is going to fail. Her husband Jaime Fraser gets taken hostage, raped and tortured by Captain Jonathan Randall, but he gets rescued by Claire and the clansmen. Claire lets Jamie know that she is pregnant, they leave, trying to sail to France.
In season 2, Claire and Jaime are in Paris. Jaime is now the confidante of Charles Stuart. Captain Jonathan Randall is seen again in Paris. Claire makes Jaime promise to keep him alive, until she is certain that Frank will be alive when she gets back to her own time. She then convinces Captain Jonathan Randall to marry a lady named Mary Hawkins. Unfortunately, Claire loses her baby. Claire and Jamie return to Scotland after this. Shortly after, Claire falls pregnant again and Jaime convinces her to return to her own timeline, saying he will die fighting at war beside his clan. Claire goes back to 20th century and tells Frank about the time travel and the events that followed. Frank asks her to forget all about Jaime, and reassures her that the baby will be raised as his own. 20 years later, Frank passes away. Claire takes Brianna, her daughter and goes to Scotland. Claire finds out that Jamie did not actually die at Culloden, and swears to return to him.
Jaime kills Captain Jonathan Randall, but he is very badly injured. He gets spared execution. At the prison, he becomes friends with the governor Lord John Grey, who paroles him to work later on. At the prison, Jaime is manipulated into a sexual relation and becomes a father to a son named William. Jaime returns to Scotland and starts working as a printer. In 1948, Claire starts attending medical school. Frank passes away in a car accident while Brianna is in college.
